Add an international phone package by calling your phone provider or visiting their app. You can pay by day or by month. Download WhatsApp, too, as many Italian hotels and activity providers use this to text and communicate. 

Download Waze. This is the best international navigation app. Be sure to select a radius on your map to download offline for use in spotty areas. 

Visit your bank to order Euros. This process usually takes 5-7 business days, so be sure to do so in advance. The exchange rate at the airport will be much higher. Be sure to let your bank know your travel dates, that way your credit / debit cards don't get frozen while you're traveling!
